    Hi Janice,

I’m in a situation where I would like ‘more eyes’ on my blog! Your post on increasing blog traffic was help. It’s definitely pointed out some ideas I hadn’t thought about.

Let me know if you fancy working on a collaboration at some point. I think some of my expertise around design and branding could be applied to your readership, and likewise your background in blogs could help some of my customers.

I look forward to hearing back from you.

    All the best,

    Bo

    Hi Janice,

I want to reblog your post “How You Can Use Your Blog Readers to Get more Blog Readers” I do guest bloggers or guest posts on Sundays. I am about to enter my 4th month of blogging so many of my followers are new bloggers as well and I really want them to learn about you and what your blogging does. Can I have your permission to do post that blog on an upcoming Sunday (it won’t be this Sunday). It will be credited to you, link back to you, be published on facebook, twitter, Tumblr and google+.

Thanks for creating a blog to help bloggers!

    Memee

  3. memeethemuse | at 10:20 pm

Supporting you Janice, supports myself and other fellow bloggers. I am just so pleased I discovered you so early-on in my journey. That is why I want to help my fellow bloggers find you! i did, btw, discover that I had not linked-up, I had read and followed people but hadn’t added mine. I’ve gotten it in under the wire!

  4. memeethemuse | at 6:35 pm

Have you written a piece about the use of tagging and categories. I am always super-confused when it comes to these two terms. I know it is extremly important to choose wisely, but because I am not sure which each of them does, I don’t think I am using it to maximum effect.

I tend to think of categories as a place inside my site and I tend to think of the tags as something search engines or the wordpress reader use to organize. I have less followers than people who have started months after me and I have utilized a lot of “tricks of the trade”. I am building confidence and followers but I know I must not targeting effectively.

Am going to next read your post about effective titles and the one about ineffective titles… I am pretty sure I already read the former.

Anyway, just an idea if you haven’t. But, if you have, can you point me in the right direction? I’ve already read about tags and categories on WordPress but still can’t get it quite right. Thanks!

    • Janice Wald | at 3:50 pm

      Hi Memee,
      1. Regarding categories versus tags: I have not address it in my blog posts, and I tend to go a little overboard in my tagging, so I recommend you do what I say and not what I do when it comes to this:
This is the difference: Think of it like an outline that has categores and facts. The categories would be the broader categories. The facts would be details inside those categories.
For example, today I wrote a post about Movie Sequels.
      Title: …Movie Sequels
      Category: Movies
Tag: American Sniper (the name of a movie, a detail inside the category)
      2. Regarding how many followers you have in contrast to bloggers that started after you…
I learned an expression that I am going to share because it applies.
Do not compare your race to someone else’s.
I hope I helped in both cases.
Thanks for turning to me. Always feel free to write with questions.
      Janice

      • memeethemuse | at 6:52 pm

Thank you for the example on the tags and categories. I didn’t mean to sound like I was complaining about my numbers… I didn’t start this for recognition but myself. It is just a trend that I have noticed and so I figured I must be doing something wrong. Thank you for the reassurance!

  5. memeethemuse | at 12:42 pm

So confused by twitter. I came to your page via a cool, short link that twitter created (I think). Anyway, whenever I try to put a wordpress link on twitter it stays gigantic. Should I go to tinyurl dot com and make some random code. My blog link takes up all the space so I cannot say anything in the tweet.

    • Janice Wald | at 12:58 pm

No don’t. Very easy. Go to Dashboard, Click edit, click get short link, select all so it’s highlighted, copy it. Then go to Twitter. Click the pencil Write a few words about what your post is about. Then paste the link. That should not exceed Twitter’s maximum number of characters. Thank you for writing. Write me with questions anytime. Let me know if that works for you.

  6. memeethemuse | at 1:07 pm

Oh, awesome! That totally works. I thought twitter was supposed to do it for me LOL. BTW, the post we talked about will be reblogged this Sunday. Thanks again for all your help and amazingly helpful, coherent, blog posts!

Hi Janice! Great stuff as usual and I really appreciate the reminders to network and revisit all the other people who comment on my blog. I do try to visit them but often get discouraged if that is the last I see of them. As you say, it is important to “do onto others as I want them to do unto me” so I will ramp that up. Oh, and I don’t get notified where another person “likes” my posts. Is that a special plugin? I would like to know if that’s true. Thanks for all your suggestions. ~Kathy

    • Janice Wald | at 10:18 pm

      Hi Kathy,
Great to hear from you. Thanks for writing me. I went to your site. It seems you self host. I use WordPress.com. WordPress notifies me through my Email when someone has clicked the “like” button. I don’t know how someone who doesn’t use WordPress.com would find out about “likes”. However, I have heard there are plug ins. Yoast has a plug in I heard is good. Try Googling it and reading reviews of the plugins that will enable you to be apprised of likes. Thanks so much for your kind words about my writing.

      Hi,
On home page look for subscribe. Put your Email in there. On any other page, if you don’t see subscribe, scroll all the way down. An optin box should pop out where you can put your Email. Thank you so much for trying. I am honored.

Try reading “The Stand” by S. King. I read it while away from home after my junior year in high school at a Physics camp in Rolla, Missouri. (Loved in southern IL) Came down with a case of the sniffles from allergies, I guess. Mimicked the symptoms in the book! Scared me to death!

For the pre-teens. Hardy boys and Nancy Drew fits the average kids mind set. I was reading Faulkner, Shakespeare, Bradbury, basically if I got my hands on a book I read it.

    • Janice Wald | at 2:11 pm

      Hi Kaylaa,
      1. There were duplicate comments. I removed the first one, per your request.
      2. I was hoping you could do a favor for me. Your detailed comments to me about why it’s better not to self-host could be a blog post. As you know, I offer blogging tips on my site. I also feature guest authors.
Many of my readers wrestle with whether or not to self-host. I thought I could present your comments in a pro-con approach to self-hosting.
I thought I’d offer the perks that I’ve found so far (only self-hosted since August), and you could present the cons to self-hosting and the reasons to stay on WP.com.
I think I’ve had a pro-con before but never written by two different people.
My guest authors always get traffic from my site, so you could grow your readership.
You don’t have to do anything at all unless you’d like to write a short bio. I would just paste your comments into a new blog post. I would link to your site anyway.
I was considering writing the pros of self-hosting anyway, but a pro-con format written by two authors would be more interesting, and, as I said, could result in traffic for you.
What do you say? I am excited about this idea.

Sounds like a great idea Janice…thank you for the invite 🙂 . I could also reformat the post so it reads better and add some more cons or considerations, if you would like. For there are some other issues, they should also consider that I did not mention, that I have not seen any blogging tip that has that information. You can shoot me an email on my blog’s contact page http://commonsensegal.com/contact-me/ and give me your email address and the date you need my input by (don’t put your email address explicitly here because the spam bots that search your site will misuse…to email spam to people). The email and publishing info you provide, will ensure that I provide the info ahead of your schedule and you will have it in time to review and integrate it into your complete blog article. I look forward to collaborating with you on this piece 🙂 . Cheers.

          Hi Kayla,
Yes, a collaboration! I am glad you are excited about it as I am.
I am happy communicating about this by Email, but I am not sure I understand your spam concerns. Feel free to Email me at my Email
          janicegreenfield123@gmail.com.
I was thinking about as early as next Saturday December 5.
I did not want to put you to trouble, I thought I could just copy-paste your comments or reformat them myself if needed.
However, if you would prefer to format them and add to them, of course, great! Thank you! Seriously, I was not trying to add to your plate. I know how busy we all are.
If you want, you could copy your comments to Word or Google Docs, so you wouldn’t have to rewrite them all and then add to your reasons and format if you’d like.
Send them as a Word attachment or share via Google Docs to janicegreenfield123@gmail.com. Thanks so much.

Janice, Ok great, yes I am always busy…between my tech job, school and creative exploits :), but I will write something up for you (as this would be fun), starting with my previous response to you and will have it to you before your publishing day on Saturday. Regarding my spam concern, it was in relation to your email you posted here. In that, although it is convenient to write it here. Spammers that harvest emails from websites, using spambots will also love this 🙂 . So that is why I was giving you a preventative tip on this, as to discourage it. In that, the use of the contact form or reply form is great in protecting the email addresses of yourself and your users, but posting it explicitly here can increase spam, either in the form of receiving spam or spammers using the email addresses collected from your site, to send out tons of spam emails to others.

Usually, if you decide to add your email address explicitly, it is best to disguise it as an image or use Javascript in the website code to mask it. However, if you already have JavaScript code in place…then you are fine. If not, I recommend limiting the email address sharing to the contact form to discourage spammers and spambots. If you are not concerned about this, then that is fine too…but wanted to bring it up to you as that can create a serious problem as your site traffic and subscriber conversations increases….and they start sharing their emails explicitly in the comments section instead of the provided form field.
So just wanted to give you a heads up on that 🙂

OK. Thank you for explaining. I will try to avoid putting my email in comments if I can. Good suggestion. If you could get it for me before Friday of next week, that would be great thank you.

Got it Kaylaa. Thanks so much! Unfortunately, you never got my message that I won’t be using it until next Saturday, December 5. Be sure to check in then in case readers have questions. Thanks, and I’m sorry about the mixup in my communication.

No…its not, since Daniela response. I have not been able to add anything else…though I have tried several times. You can try logging out completely from your blog and try submitting a comment and let me know if it works.

      • commonsensegal | at 9:40 am

        Janice,

I tried submitting the post in shorter paragraphs again and it is not working for me.

I sent you the error message and my comment to Richard. It is a long comment but its important for the readers to read this and get clarification on what he said and apply that knowledge to help them with their own blog success.

I will not try to comment any further since I am having the above-mentioned issue from multiple computers and different browsers: Firefox and IE. You need to check with your web host and web support people and let them know some users are seeing the 404 no page found error when doing post submissions and send them the error I sent you and the post submission url that it is displaying. Along with the URL to the post giving the problem…so the webhost can help you fix php post page quickly.

    Hello Janice

I hope this email meets you well. Sorry to be a bother, but I wanted to seek your advice on the Valentine’s weekend blog party that I plan to host.

This will be my first time of doing this and asides from sending out a post to invite people to bookmark the date to share their links and mingle, I don’t know much about blog hopping party.

You come to my mind for obvious reasons, because you are such a resourceful person and if it’s not too much of a bother, I would like your advice on the steps that I should follow or take to make this is a success and as interactive as possible.

    Hello,

I like your website and found your website through Google through your roundup post. I have recently started an SEO website and I need to build more backlinks to my website.

I wrote an article that has actionable advice for businesses trying to rank well on the Google Map listings http://seogenius.com.au/how-to-get-on-the-front-page-of-google-with-google-maps/.

If you could backlink to this in one of your posts that would be highly appreciated. Furthermore I like the alternative somewhat feminine approach you are taking to SEO through your blog. I think it is very unique.

    Thank you so much,

I am having trouble finding the right place to leave our dog blog link, and general comments for Janice!
I love what you are offering to help fellow bloggers. Your site is filled with useful information, and I thank you for sharing your plethora of knowledge. For a new blogger like me, so much of the technical language I don’t understand.
And finding appropriate place for comments or questions has been a haze maze! Anyway, thank you and Bless you. Happy Passover.
Are you hosting a Seder, or a guest? We have a cousin who hosts around 75 people! ?
They always save the longer readings for me. The frogs and locusts, oh my!
    And we celebrate Easter too.

( NOT the judgemental, intolerant kind) and Buddists, pantheistic believers… we even have an atheist left! And, 2 agnostics. It is a full house of beliefs, and all are welcome to share. My only issue is with gefilta fish. Eeeww!
So love to all and I hope you can post this wherever it should go.
    PEACE! LOVE ! HOPE!

Hope I will get the chance to write for your website and expecting a positive response soon from you.

    Hi!

I wanted to reach out about a revenue opportunity for your site. VigLink provides a set of free, easy-to-use tools to help you turn commercial links on your site into revenue generating links. In other words, we help you generate revenue from the existing commercial value on your site — without ever needing an ad. Why not earn from the merchants you’re promoting anyways, right?

Major publishers such as StyleCaster, The Daily Beast, CNET and MSN are just a few among the 2 million publishers who have already begun earning meaningful revenue with VigLink services.

Q1: I see your SM listing above. You have social media sharing buttons but I eyed your blog up and down and wonder WHY you don’t show a row of social media icons like other blog publishers do which lead to your profiles or pages on the various social media networks? Even the HuffingtonPost does it.

Q2: Also, I was wondering WHY does your LinkedIn profile have a strike-through line?

Are you looking for powerful advertising that delivers real results? Sorry to bug you on your contact form but actually that was the whole point. We can send your advertising text to websites via their contact pages just like you’re getting this ad right now. You can specify targets by keyword or just go with mass blasts to websites in the country of your choice. So let’s say you need to push through an ad to all the interior decorators in the USA, we’ll scrape websites for only those and post your ad message to them. Providing you’re promoting a product or service that’s relevant to that niche then you’ll receive an awesome result!

Send an email to ethan3646hug@gmail.com for details on how this works
