I always loved working with children, so I was overjoyed when I got my first job as a camp counselor. It was all waiting for me: the financial independence, the adrenaline rush from doing a job I love, the bees. The joy was short-lived when I visited the camp and saw it was overrun with these buzzing creatures. There were bees everywhere; I was terrified. I’d never been stung by a bee, and I heard bee stings are quite painful. My younger brother was so allergic, he once had to be hospitalized when stung. I had no idea if genetics would play a cruel trick on me and have me sent away in an ambulance for the same reason from my first summer counseling job. [Read more…]
