There are as many avenues to success.

People define what success means to them differently.

It’s important to figure out your own path as you move forward in life, especially in an entrepreneurial setting.

Of course, the moment you make this decision, you’ll be beset on all sides by those also hoping to get ahead. But if you’re careful, and you’re able to move forward with clarity and consistency, you’re sure to reap some reward for your efforts.

However, it’s often the case that working smarter and not harder can help you get further, and you’ll hear no argument against that philosophy here.

Instead, what we can offer you is a range of positive considerations that may help you succeed as an entrepreneur, minor details that added together can spell the difference between making progress or spinning your wheels.

There are many different kinds of entrepreneurs, and so for this particular post, we hope to keep it in general terms, focused on the individual who hopes to run a small business whatever kind of business is relevant to them.

With that in mind, please consider the following advice if you want to be one of the successful entrepreneurs in the world:

Entrepreneur Profile of the Most Successful Entrepreneurs in the World

A Great Sleep Schedule

One of the most underused assets in any business venture is sleep.

We often think that grinding through the night every night and taking no days off is tantamount to being effective.

But does being at work for 20 hours straight mean you’ve been working for those 20 hours? Not necessarily. Additionally, work quality can fall dramatically after five or so hours of intensive effort, as our brains only have enough mental composure for us to spend during the day.

Does this mean we should go home before lunchtime each day?

Of course not.

It simply means that if our jobs or entrepreneurial ambitions are regularly robbing us of great quality and regular sleep, we’re worse off for it. Not only will this harm your ability to think through complex problems, but it can also affect how charming you are, how socially and emotionally intelligent you may be, and how you respond to problems.

Those with chronic sleep deficiencies often have trouble dealing with their daily stresses, which can affect their health in the long run.

Who would have thought that the vital underpinning of any excellent entrepreneur would be great sleep?

Well, while it’s hardly celebrated in our culture in lieu of taking no time off or allowing health concerns get to you, the need for sleep is perhaps one of the most important things possible.

To stay active, energetic, enthusiastic and brimming with good ideas, we would heartily recommend that you pay attention to this process.

Getting at least eight or nine hours of great quality sleep a night is essential and can be aided via ensuring your sleep environment is cared for, that you meditate before bed, and give yourself enough time to wake up softly.

The more you can do this, the more you will succeed as an entrepreneur in the long term.

Streamlining Correspondance

It can be nice to streamline your correspondence appropriately. This first means separating your personal affairs from your business and professional affairs.

This is where services such as smarty mobile are so worthwhile because they offer customers the potential to curate two phone devices on separate SIMs without the need to be part of a limiting and obligated contract.

When you have your inbox emails separated and manage your contacts in the best, most well-tagged manner, you can also prioritize your correspondence appropriately.

Apps such as Mozilla Thunderbird are great at tracking multiple email addresses such as this in just one click. It can also be worthwhile to set up your out-of-office automated greetings, or perhaps use apps like Evernote to drag emails to and curate pertinent information that you make need to come back to later.

Apps such as these can also help you keep track of certain necessary allowances, such as your meeting schedule for the week, in one easy-to-access and cloud protected format.

The more you can make communication a vital asset of your day and not just something that melts your time away, you will be sure to notice the time-saving and stress-busting difference here.

A Regular Routine

A regular routine composes your action and helps you retain discipline during your self-starting approach.

Many believe that who you are in your mid to late 20s will help define your character for the rest of your life. In a similar way, the first year of your entrepreneurial instinct is essential for setting up the habits that will contribute to the rest of your planning.

For instance, waking up at the same time every day, getting to your terminal or driving into the office, beginning your daily work, attending meetings, briefing your team, all of this should be relatively regular. Does this mean you need to be rigid in your approach and you can never make changes? Quite the opposite in fact.

However, as an entrepreneur, you may not be as bound by time as you are when working for an employer.

This means that you get to set your hours yourself. While we may have romantic ideas surrounding the entrepreneur who can roll out of bed at 6.30pm, walk into the lab and develop the best next billion-dollar tech invention, it’s important to discipline yourself and stick to a similar timeframe as everyone else.

This can help you attending meetings early to impress investors or use all available hours to pivot your strategy if it’s not working out.

Additionally, this will help you better manage a team and stay up to speed with your approach in the long term. You’d be thoroughly surprised just how valuable this can be.

Time To Reflect and Improve

It’s very easy to work at a million miles an hour when developing your operation.

This is because you likely have hundreds if not thousands of responsibilities to deal with each week, and that can be a drain on your resources.

However, somewhere in all of this you also need to find the time to improve and reflect upon your daily or weekly progress. Three hours at the weekend or the start of each week dedicated to reviewing progress, forecasting your goals and assessing what went wrong in the week prior can be nothing if not instructive, and for the most part, can help you avoid making those errors yourself.

As an entrepreneur, it can be hard to learn from the errors of those around you, because you’re helping an operation without exact peer groups or you may be out of the industry you worked in prior for some time.

That being said, reading up on case studies, assigning a narrative around the successes and failures that have come your way and crafting goals for you to improve or think on can help you routinely learn from yourself and others in the best possible way, and to this end, you can avoid no uncertain amount of trouble that comes through ignorance.

To use an example of this, you may find that many restaurants fail in their first year due to charging high prices, giving lower quality food even in a locally supplied area, and a lack of careful marketing to the right audience.

You may use those failures to help instruct your own research and planning, following a different and more humble path to success as a restauranteur.

Then, when you’ve built up your name, you can then approximate the best solution. An old Jewish proverb suggests that ‘The wide man learns from those around him,’ and if that’s not true for business applications, we’re not sure what it would be true for.

Developing A Reputation

Even if you’re now divorced from the major players in your industry, leaving to helm this current operation you are in charge of, it can be that your prior professional reputation is not as useful as it might have been.

However, you now have the chance to curate your own in this space, and to do so reliably.

For instance, ensuring that your vision is protected, that you protect your intellectual property with legal backing, and that you are humble in approach yet firm with your ideas can be important.

The measures by which you trust your team and are able to defer authority, or treat outsourced employees well for certain tasks or the respect via which you attend and treat investor meetings can all contribute to your reputational management for the better, no matter how successful you are in these pursuits.

To this degree, your name can begin to speak for itself, and as you develop in the long term the credibility you gain will help any and all operations you wish to be a part of.

In this capacity, you’ll be working with intelligence and self-preservation as reliable tools.

    Hi Janice,

Interesting points here, and by following these pointers one will surely get to the top. But I also want to add that challenging oneself and having a passion for what you’re doing will help in becoming a successful entrepreneur.
Being an entrepreneur means that you will make sacrifices and work longer hours. And if you have no passion for your business module, you will not have the motivation to keep doing it or to challenge yourself. Loving what you do is a powerful motivator that will urge you to challenge yourself and accomplish more.

      Hi Moss,
      Great to hear from you.
      You make excellent points.
Although I certainly can’t compare myself to the most successful entrepreneurs in the world, passion drives me. After knowing you for many years, I believe passion drives you too.
Thanks for coming by with your suggestions.

Early to bed early to rise makes a person healthy, wealthy and rich. Just like what Neil Patel does.

For me I think being relaxed, know my priorities, exercise, meditation helps me make right decisions. Sleep is very important to me but how many hours will depend on my schedule for the day. I surely will not look my best if I do not have enough of sleep.

    • Janice Wald | at 3:06 pm

    Great Article Janice!
For me, the first and foremost quality of any successful entrepreneur is Pasion. Nobody can achieve anything if they do not have a passion for reaching that goal. The absolute passion starts motivating your mind to take new challenges and tasks to reach the goal.
Thanks & Keep sharing such motivational post.
    Best wishes to you!

Glad you enjoyed Sophie. I agree that passion drives us. The other commenters echoed your thoughts. I’m sure the entrepreneurs mentioned in the post have a passion that drives them. I know Oprah Winfrey does. I’ve heard her express her passion in interviews. Thanks for commenting.
