Running a successful blog can be like a full-time job. You have to keep things updated and running smoothly, post fresh content, interact with the people visiting your blog, answer emails, and more.

You can’t afford to be lackadaisical if you want to experience true success as a blogger. Putting in the work regularly will be the difference between you making a little pocket money from your blog and perhaps getting some products to review, and making a full time living better than you could have ever made in the workplace.

With this in mind, let’s take a look at 10 ways you can make your blog more successful that really work. Enjoy!

10 Successful Blogging Tips

  1. Work on Building Solid Relationships

Building solid relationships with fellow bloggers is a great idea. They can link and share your posts, provide advice when you’re feeling stuck or confused, and even offer encouragement and support. Becoming a real part of the blogging community will help you to grow your blog. You can use social networks to do this, e.g., getting involved with blogger chats on Twitter.

You can also build solid relationships with your audience. Do this by actually speaking to your audience in the comments section, giving them personalized answers. If you receive in-depth, positive comments, it’s a good sign that whatever you’re posting is resonating with the people who are reading. You should make sure you get into regular conversations with people and encourage them to join in the conversation after each blog post by ending it with a question. Always respond to your audience!

2. Aim To Provide Value

You can only get so far writing about whatever you want. You should aim to provide value to the people who are reading your content. Do this by asking yourself questions, such as how can I help them? What is it they want?

Take a look at other blogs they may be reading, and consider doing some keyword research so you can see what queries are popular for ideas on what to base your blog posts around. Not only will this allow you to tailor your posts to them, but it’ll also help you to make sure your blog is SEO ready and performing better in the search engines. By simply tweaking the words you are using, you could have a huge impact on the success of your blog.

3. Make Your Blog Look More Professional

A professional looking blog is essential – if it looks like a hobby you don’t care too much about, then people aren’t going to want to get too invested in you and what you have to say. By using a virtual address provider you can make it look like you work from an actual office, and there are many other benefits to doing this too. Then, there’s the actual aesthetics of your blog. You should make sure your font is easy to read, ensure a clean design, and create strong branding so that you can instantly be recognized.

4. Build A Strong Social Media Presence

A strong social media presence is also important. People are more likely to follow you if they find you on social media, and you’ll be able to start and share conversations and topics that you believe to be important. With a strong presence, you can establish yourself as an expert in your industry and build trust and credibility.

5. Include Attractive Images With Each Post

Images with each post help to break up the text and bring some visual interest to a piece. Ideally, these pictures will be of high quality, original, and illustrate whatever it is you are talking about. Taking and editing them yourself is a good idea, especially if you’re talking about things like outfits, interior decor, or something similar.

6. Work out How To Write Attention Grabbing Headlines

Writing attention-grabbing headlines is the difference between somebody feeling compelled to instantly click on a post, and just scrolling past without a second thought. There are tools online you can use to help you write headlines like this. Some people like to make them ‘clickbaity’ but it can be annoying if you click on a post only to realize it doesn’t really have anything to do with the title.

7. Make It Mobile Friendly

A mobile friendly site is a must. More and more people are browsing using their mobiles and tablets, so you need to make sure your site is there when they decide to visit you. Nobody wants to do the endless scrolling and pinching that is required of sites that aren’t mobile ready. It’s 2019 and every single website should have a mobile site!

8. Be Consistent

Consistency in your values, style, and posting frequency automatically make you a more trustworthy blogger that people will want to visit again. Having a regular posting schedule will do you the world of good. You don’t need to post every single day. Even a couple of times a week is fine, but you should make sure you commit to it.

9. Always Be Unique

Don’t rip off anybody else’s posts. Don’t try to be somebody else because you think it’ll make you popular. Always be you and always put your own unique spin on what you’re saying. There are too many bloggers out there trying to be successful by riding on another blogger’s coattails.

10. Create YouTube Videos To Match

YouTube videos and vlogging is becoming increasingly popular, with YouTube the second largest search engine to Google. By creating videos to match your posts and linking to them, you can make sure there’s something for everybody. Videos have the added benefit of showing off your personality and getting the information across in a far more interesting way!

BBFFJ, I really like your new look! So professional!
Thanks for the 10 tips. I especially need to make sure my site is mobile friendly. I never thought to try it out on my phone to check.

    • Janice Wald

      Hi BBFFM,
Great to hear from you! I’m so glad you like my new theme! The website GTMetrix can check your loading speed for you. Thanks for writing.

  2. Hugh

I agree with all the tips offered in this post, Janice. In fact, I’ve recommend many of them in some of my posts. However, I would recommend bloggers to be careful with social media. Rather than having too many social media accounts and having to spread yourself thinly, stick to two or three at the most, as social media can eat into your writing time and can become overwhelming at the same time.

Great to see your ‘like’ button working again.

    • Janice Wald

      Hi Hugh,
Great news! I didn’t realize my like button was working! =)
I’ll have to write my tech helper and let him know! Thanks for telling me!
Regarding social media, it definitely eats into my time; however, I like links to my site from all over, but I do what I can find time to do. I try to stay regimented so I squeeze everything in. Thanks for the comments and for the good news about my like button.

    • Janice Wald

      Hi Murali,
      1. Go to Google Analytics to find out your best days of the week for traffic. Publish on those days. How often do you publish? The more you publish, the more traffic you’ll get. 2. Be sure to write about topics with high search volume and low competition. 5. Donna Merrill

    Hi Janice,

These tips are spot on! My favorite is building relationships. It can be from answering comments on our blog and continuing to engage on social media platforms. I always tell people that comments are the backbone of blogging and it is oh so true.

To me, building relationships are like “word of mouth” in the business world. People do suggest particular blogs to go to for information to their friends online. Once we gain good and loyal followers, the rest can be built on this solid relationship of the know, like and trust factor.

P.S. Love the new look of your blog!

    • Janice Wald

      Hi Donna,
Your comments made me realize: I always feel I fall short on engaging since I don’t comment on other people’s blogs as often as I should. However, I do comment on social media and I return my own blog comments. Thanks for making me realize these count toward successful blogging practices. Thanks for the compliments on my newly revamped look. Thanks as well for your comments.

  6. Gaurav Kumar

    Hi JJanice,

When it comes to blogging most of the people fail to be consistent. People also ignore the importance of building relationships. Lack of social media presence, uniqueness and user friendliness are the major reasons why most of the bloggers fail in blogging.

You have shared all the helpful points that can help a blogger to boost blogging.

    • Janice Wald

      Hi Gaurav,
Thanks for coming by to comment on my post. Of all the comments here, relationship building seems to be the comment that resonates most with bloggers. Twitter is the main place I network with my blogging friends. That goes along with social media presence. I’ve built a presence for myself on Instagram as well. I strive to be unique and user-friendly as well. I’m in my 5th year. Thanks for commenting that these tips for successful blogging are valid.

  7. 1010ParkPlace

I agree with your points and with Hugh’s as well. I’ve let Twitter go because I wasn’t getting the return on my time I wanted.

    • Janice Wald

      Hi Brenda,
Twitter is still a larger referrer of my traffic. It’s my opportunity to network with blogging friends off the blog and people have offered me opportunities on Twitter. For all these reasons, I stay with it. Great to see you. Thanks for commenting on my successful blogging post.

  8. Murali
