There are many advantages to social media marketing and advertising.

First and foremost, you don’t need a budget to advertise on social media sites.

Yet, you don’t want your efforts to turn up nothing in return. Even if you’re not spending your money to market on social media sites, you’re spending your time.

To make sure you’re getting the best ROI (Return on Time Invested), follow these nine effective methods.

Tips to Create a Profitable Social Media Marketing Strategy

Justas Markus

Platforms like Facebook and Instagram have hundreds of millions of active users sharing content and participating in other activities on the websites. This number is more than enough to convince brands around the world to increase their presence on social media sites and profit from that presence.

If you are only starting out and are not sure what the main focus on a strategy should be, consider spending a bit of time researching.

The tips below should be a good reference and help you to get a better grasp of what social media marketing is about.

9 Powerful Social Media Marketing and Advertising Hacks

Tip #1 – Look at Some Examples

Diving right in without any real understanding of what a successful campaign should look like is not the best strategy. Getting inspiration from success stories will help you move forward.

It can be extra difficult if you are not smart about setting realistic goals. Disappointment from results can quickly turn into a loss of motivation.

Look for some amazing social media campaign examples that will help you figure out what is what and have something to look up to when things are getting rough.

Tip #2 – Pick the Right Platform

Facebook and Instagram are the two obvious choices when it comes to picking the best platforms. However, depending on your niche, you may benefit even more by looking for some other options.

For instance, Pinterest is great for businesses that rely on visuals. You may also encounter some other, less-known platforms while looking for available options.

Keep in mind that the competition on Instagram and Facebook is pretty fierce, and shifting focus to platforms that are not as popular could be the right course of action.

Tip #3 – Research the Audience

Do not come with expectations that you can run things blindly. Audience research is an important aspect of the campaign, and it can make or break your whole strategy.

Make sure that you have an audience in mind before you commit spending resources. Find out whether the platform you are targeting has the right user base. Otherwise, you will only end up wasting resources.

Tip #4 – Run Contests and Giveaways

Giveaways and contests work the best when it comes to trying to create viral content. People will be more than happy to share your posts if there is something in it for them as well.

Natural reach will attract audiences that you would not be able to attract using different means. Think about what you can offer as a prize and run giveaways that will boost your follower numbers.

Tip #5 – Work With Influencers

Influencer marketing continues to be a cornerstone of a lot of brands. Even if you are still starting out, there are lots to be gained from working with influencers. Finding one might be a bit difficult, especially if you are in a relatively small niche.

Nevertheless, there should still be something to choose from. Look for micro-influencers (someone who has between 1,000 to 100,000 followers) if you are having a hard time striking a partnership deal with bigger celebrities.

And remember that the most important part of the influencer is his or her audience. An audience should be relevant and interested in your products or services.

Tip #6 – Engage With Your Followers

Showing the followers that you are genuinely interested in interacting with them will help to build a stronger relationship. Engage with them by responding to comments, organizing polls, or asking questions.

People will appreciate someone who is a real person. Show them that there is someone like that behind the profile.

Tip #7 – Focus on Content Quality

Content quality is another priority. Emphasize good and interesting posts rather than spamming the feed of your followers with random stuff that most of them would not find interesting in the first place.

The captions should also be interesting and eye-catching. Including hashtags will also help with content optimization, especially on a platform like Instagram.

Finally, there are visuals. Our brain processes visuals better. So instead of writing long paragraphs of text, make sure that you include a high-quality picture or even an infographic.

Tip #8 – Use the Right Tools

There are third-party tools that can help you manage the campaigns more efficiently. For example, a scheduling tool will allow you to schedule content in advance and automatically post it in case you are unable to do that yourself.

Tip #9 – Think of Trends

If you are struggling with thinking about content ideas, look at Google Trends or other websites to find out what are the hot topics in the world at the moment. You can look to connect those ideas to something that is relevant to your audience.

Keep in mind, though, that it is still the best sticking to quality and originality instead of posting whatever just to keep the feed going. Do not sacrifice quality for quantity.

  8. Solomon Unoke

great info here. In my opinion, I think facebook should pay some of the people on it.
Group admins are more or less working for facebook, running a group is almost a full time work and there should be compensated for the effort.
But perhaps since facebook is already the largest social media out there, they’ll feel no need for this.

    • Janice Wald

Wow! I love your idea! Unique! That would be wonderful. I guess the group admins have other motives: They can market to people in their group, spread their brand, generate traffic…
      Thanks for your unique opinion.
      Janice

  9. Canz

People are mad about making money on social networking websites and I am glad you have written on this topic. Some people sell items on social media and some people offer social media promotion services. Social media marketing can be of two types. Paid social media marketing is emerging as a preferred method of promotion as it is can be more effective than free promotion methods.

    • Janice Wald

      Hi Canz,
I agree with you, but I think it’s unfortunate. Many can’t afford paid ads. For instance, I hear Facebook Ads have a reputation for being expensive. I feel bad for brands without budgets. Thanks for contributing to the conversation.
      Janice
