snapchat online or on your phone equals blogging success

Can you make money on Snapchat?

Marketers use social media to make money.

Bloggers turn to social media for help promoting their blogs.

Businesses use Instagram for help with branding.

Can Snapchat help bloggers and other content creators like Instagram and other social media sites do?

Can you make money from Snapchat?

I asked my friend and social media expert, Lisa Sicard.

Her guest post explains how you can use Snapchat online or with the app to further grow your blog or business by generating traffic and ultimately making money.

It’s true! You can make money from Snapchat!

Are you ready to learn how to make money on Snapchat online and with the app? Let’s dive in.

Snapchat is Now A More Personalized Social Tool For Your Small Business

Lisa Sicard

Snapchat is not the easiest social network to master if you don’t use it. Of course, the younger you are, the more likely you will grasp it quickly. My granddaughter, at the tender age of 3, already knows how to make snaps and has fun doing it.  She recently spent some time with me and we played with it as I’ve been wanting to use it more in the coming year.

What is Snapchat?

There are now over a million snaps being made daily on Snapchat! Snapchat has been around for 6 years with over 300 million active users monthly. Of all the social media users in the United States, about 18% of them use Snapchat today.  (Stats via Omnicore, 2017).

Snapchat is indeed the place to be for the younger audience. Teenagers love Snapchat. If you want to grow a younger audience and be where they are, you may want to include Snapchat in your 2018 marketing plan. (35% of all US teens are using Snapchat.)

Instagram is their other favorite social network. Snapchat is hoping to gain more market share from Instagram with their upcoming changes.

Why You Should Use Snapchat Online or the Snapchat App

Snapchat Is Changing!

Snapchat is the first social media network to separate social from the media. Snapchat is going to do the opposite of Facebook now. Snapchat’s algorithm will give users what they want the most from their friends and other users.  They announced these exciting upcoming changes on November 29, 2017.

You will be able to watch stories from your best friends first. No longer will you see posts from those who post the most first. Won’t that be nice?

To the other side, you will see the premium publisher stories that you follow and the Snap Map in the discover section sorted by your past viewing behavior. This will give you a more personalized experience with Snapchat. You will also be able to discover more things easily on Snapchat. That is great for users and great for marketers alike.

How This Will Shape Snapchat Users

Snapchat hopes that this new update will eliminate some fake news that the other social networks have become plagued with. The social media influencers will no longer be in group stories taking the pressure off users to perform elaborate snaps for Snapchat and produce more pure content.

Also, if you follow someone and they don’t follow you back, they will be in the discover tab. Once they follow you, they will be your friends on Snapchat.

According to TechCrunch, “Now, when you finish watching one story, Snap will show a brief interstitial screen with the name and a preview of the next friend’s story. That way you can swipe down to exit out before you watch it (which friends can see in their analytics) or swipe over to skip to the next preview. This combined with the sorting makes it much easier to lean back and watch a ton of friends’ Snaps. It’s the most potent part of the whole redesign, and could seduce users who were losing their best friends’ Stories amongst the noise.”

This will keep your friends in the forefront on this social network thus making it more social and less media.

How Will Snapchat Compete with Instagram in 2018?

Snapchat says starting in 2018, it will give independent social media stars ways to monetize their accounts. They may receive a share of the ad revenue they drive. This, along with assisted audience growth, could finally give Snapchat users a reason to invest time into Snaps because they will get something back for example from YouTube. Instagram does not offer this! Imagine getting paid for using this channel! I can see several of you rushing over to open an account right now.

How Can You Use Snapchat Online or with the App For Your Blog or Small Business?

The key to using Snapchat today is sharing stories. If you add something to your story, it can last 24 hours. It makes you “real” to your followers and friends. It gives them a glimpse of your real life. People want to do business with real people not brands with no faces. Unmask your brand with Snapchat stories.

Make Stories – Stories last 24 hours and stay there for the day. Make a story about your day, a glimpse in the life in your business.  It could be something simple as making that first cup of coffee in the morning with your hair up and raveled. Yes, you must be brave to unmask behind the brand. Snapchat will grow your website

Tag Others – Promote others via Snapchat! This is just like any other social media network.  Remember the good old 80/20 rule? Add others to your stories. Include them in your day. If you read someone’s blog post and learned something of value, share it in a Snapchat story with them in it.

Let Others Send Your Snaps – If they don’t follow you, allow them to share snaps. This can be a little scary at first but if others can’t find you, Snapchat will be useless. It reminds me of protected tweets. Why be there if you can’t be seen or found by others? As long as you are not doing anything you mother won’t mind seeing, then you will be okay.

Promote Your Snapchat Account – People can only find you if you are friends or on their contact list. Most of your blog followers may not be on your contact list! So, do include your Snapchat handle throughout your social networks and blog.  Let your readers and clients know you are on Snapchat. Snapchat online

Buy Snapchat Ads – You can invite customers to play and share with your lenses. The minimum expense for Snapchat ads is $50.00. You can create custom audiences like with Facebook ads. Snapchat has reduced it from $100.00 to encourage more small businesses to use its ad feature. They do include a pixel – again like Facebook ad pixels for tracking purposes. snapchat online

Practice – It may take a while to get used to using Snapchat online or the Snapchat app. I know it has for me. I am still practicing how to use this network. Like with most of the social networks, once you master it something changes. That’s why being familiar with a network by using it at least weekly if not daily will keep you familiar with it. Learning it must become a habit to master it!

April

Coincidentally, just one month after I heard Vaynerchuk’s prediction, the Social Media Examiner reported a rise in both income and users for Snapchat’s first quarter of 2020.

interstitial – I had to look that up! So, I’ve had my vocab lesson for the day. Yay!! I love learning new words! Thanks, Lisa!
I thought snapchat was just pictures that disappeared. I must have been thinking of the wrong thing.
Anyway, hi BBFFJ!! I’ve missed you too! I finally have home internet again. So, now I will actually have time to visit everyone, instead of rushing to just write a post, in the 90 minutes of library usage!

Hi Melinda, You are welcome 🙂 Here is the definition of interstitial “interstitials are web pages displayed before or after an expected content page, often to display advertisements or confirm the user’s age”.
It’s much more than disappearing images today, Snapchat has really evolved over time.
Thanks for coming by on this one and nice to meet you Melinda. Have a great weekend!

    Hey Janice and Lisa!

Snapchat is interesting. I have not used it for marketing at all. But I know it has potential. They do things differently, and that makes the social platform unique. I like the fact that your stories only last 24 hours. This is a great way for people to get to know you better and have a glimpse at your lifestyle.

I know Instagram is doing something similar to the stories feature on snapchat. I think it’s a great idea. I’m currently experimenting with instagram. I want to focus on one platform at a time. I might give snapchat a go once I have mastered instagram. 🙂

Thank you for sharing these tips!

    Cheers! 😀

  4. Lisa Sicard

Hi Freddy, nice to see you by here….Snapchat really is a unique platform and the younger set really love it. It’s been expanding to more people and many more businesses are using it in their marketing mix. I know it can be daunting to get on too many social networks at a time.
I’d love to know how you like it once you try it!
Thanks for coming by to comment and have a great rest of the weekend.
