Can you make money blogging?

My post 18 Ways You Can Have One of the Most Popular Blogs explained how people find me in order to offer me financial opportunities.

In contrast, this post offers you actionable steps you can take in order to make money online.

How to Make Money Online

The Reason Why You Don’t Make 5 Figures From Your Blog And How To Fix It

Do you want to know why you are not making 5 figures from your blog? I have been spending a lot of time exploring this subject and I got a very interesting answer. And now I am going to share it with you.

The answer is very simple, but at the same time takes some skills to implement:

You are not making 5 figures because you are leaving 97 percent of the money on the table.

And I will explain to you why.

What Happens With Your Visitors?

Did you know that 70 percent of your blog’s visitors never come back to your blog?

This means that every week you need to put in the same amount of work to get new visitors, instead of just signing up the old ones and building a REAL relationship with them.

To show this you fully, I will ask you a question:

Out of all the time you spend on the internet, what percentage do you spend in “buying mode”?

The answer is probably less than 1 percent for most of you.

At least 97 percent of your visitors are not ready to buy when they arrive to your blog.

You are mostly converting only a few percent and leaving 97 to 99 percent on the table.

Now imagine that you would increase your success rate and you would only leave 90 percent of the money on the table? You could 5X your blog income.

For those who have no traffic or no revenue, the change is even more drastic.

The answer is Sales Funnels.

I am going to give you a simple example to demonstrate to you how this works.

There is a website called This Is Why I’m Broke.

These guys don’t even have their own product to sell and they make 5 figures per month.

This is how their simple funnel works:

What they do is find “cool” things on Amazon or eBay, and review them on their site.

With their cool listings, they get subscribers to their email list that get notified about the coolest products.

Here is an example of a cool product, a Halloween thing, click on the video to watch it.

>> You can click here to see it. <<

They then ask their subscribers to check it out with an affiliate link to Amazon.

They don’t even usually sell the product mentioned…

And if you are familiar with Amazon’s affiliate program, then you know that it is not the easiest one, it has a cookie duration of only 24 hours, which means they get a commission if someone buys something within 24 hours of clicking their affiliate link. And the commission range is only 4-10 percent.

Despite this, they make over $20,000 commissions a month just from Amazon. And they use other affiliate programs, like eBay, and their total affiliate earnings come out to over $50,000 per month.

Do you see how a well-constructed funnel makes a difference?

No Idea About Funnels?

Many people have no idea about funnels. They see the emails they get, the opt-in form, the landing page… but they don’t see the funnel itself. They only see the trees, but not the forest.

But they make a HUGE difference in terms of your bottom line. This is why I started to study them and this is why I launched my new website.

I posted a challenge to build a whole website and a funnel from scratch and get it to 5 figures income in 4 months. As you see I like challenges…

Why am I doing this? Well, I like games. But there is more…

The Death Of 9 To 5

While I originally started learning online marketing in 2008, I took a long break and restarted it in January 2017. I am completely self-taught.

One of the first people I ran into during my online journey was Derek Halpern at Social Triggers.

I watched a few of his webinars and he spoke about the “Death of 9 to 5”. He explained that the whole economic system is rotten, it is set up to cause you to fail. People can’t sustain their life with their day jobs and therefore they turn to the internet and start an online business.

I am originally from Hungary, which is in the middle of Europe. I lived 20 years in Florida because I had a job opportunity. In November 2016, I decided to quit because it was too abusive. I literally got on a bus, walked off from my old life, leaving everything behind to start a new one.

I found a place to stay and I started an eBay business. I bought customer return merchandise and sold it. It was going okay, so I decided to buy two WalMart pallets of electronics.

That is when everything fell to pieces. The American society is on a downhill. There are more and more people who are in the extremely poor bracket. Some of them survive by criminal means. I got robbed twice in a row. I didn’t feel safe any more and had no more money. I decided to leave the US.

And I can tell you, be happy about your 9 to 5. Last Saturday I woke up at 4 am to catch my bus to start work at 5:50 am and I worked until 6 pm. 20-minute lunch break. Then I got home and went to sleep at 10 pm so that I can wake up again and do the same thing on Sunday. And I also need to do this on a nightly schedule…

Luckily I have more time and days off during the week. But I only make the equivalent of $600 per month.

So I spend all my free time on my blogs and learning more.

This is why I came up with the challenge: to break out of the rat-race.

My Funnel

I built my funnel based on all the stuff I learned and I also want to help others to get out of their 9 to 5 and make an online income with their blog.

It is a brand new type of funnel that most probably you have never seen before.

It was built to engage visitors to the point where people are begging to send them more emails. Quite the opposite to what you get in a usual email funnel.

And therefore mail open rates and conversion rates can go up crazy high… The average open rate in the marketing/advertising industry is 17.81% and the click rate is 1.92% per MailChimp. I have a 45 percent email open rate and a click rate of over 20%.

Do you know the old boring e-mail confirmation page that gets everyone annoyed?

“To verify your e-mail address, please click on the confirmation link that will be emailed to you in a few minutes.”

No, not mine. They read it and they run searching for my email and they go crazy if they still haven’t received it…

So come over and experience my special engagement funnel.  And steal it, copy it if you wish.

Build your funnel and achieve the secret goals that you have set for your blog.

    Hi Janice,
    Useful post!
I have an extensive experience working online, and I can tell you that while there are so many ways of making money online, most of them are a waste of time.

    • Janice Wald

      Hi Mira,
I’m curious why you say that. Even if something pays a little money, doesn’t it all add up?

Very useful post. I worked on my funnel last year, but I can use some of your tips to fine turn it and make it even better. A 45% email open rate is off the charts!! Wow. My open rate is between 25 and 30%.

    • Peter Nyiri - FunnelXpert

I have rewritten my emails about 4 times so far, and i am still not happy with them…

  4. Ryan Biddulph

Funnels are definitely helpful Peter. I’d add; face, embrace and release money blocks to make more cash through your blog. I recall doing all the stuff bloggers advised me to do, for quite a long time, many years ago. Eventually I went bonkers because nothing seemed to work. I was doing the right stuff but backed my actions with a poverty conscious, scarcity type energy. Not good. When I cleared some deep mental blocks around money I took the same actions but the dough began flowing in. Follow proven practical tips and make sure you’re acting abundantly, and generously, guys.

I starting to get back into blogging with a new blog. It will be more personal and I really do need to do what you say in your blog post. I have been out of it for awhile and need to refreshen and get up to date what I have missed out on.

    • Peter Nyiri - FunnelXpert

Hi Sandy, I wish you luck in your journey.
It’s a lot of work. I have more stuff on my blog, like the Clueless Newbie’s Guide To Free Website Traffic that is designed to help people trying to get started.

  6. Steve Robinson

I am not sure if you can really make money online, as i have read all the articles and content online but have ever personally used.

    • Peter Nyiri - FunnelXpert

Yes, it’s possible, many people do it.
However it is not easy. Just keep working on it, don’t give up.

    • Janice Wald

      Hi Steve,
I found I made money online by not trying to make money online.
I built my Domain Authority score above 40. People want a link from a site with a DA above 40. Once I got my score up, the financial offers came in.
Have you read my article explaining how people who wanted to compensate me found me and why they chose me? If not, here is the link:

      Thanks for writing.

Your posts are very useful for me.

Thank you for sharing such a great story and info!

Sales funnel is part of your blog, you should incorporate the structure from Day 1.
I have a bunch of stuff for you to read on my blog that will make things easier for you.

    • Janice Wald

      Hi Ashutosh,
Congratulations on starting your blog recently. You came to the right place. We help new bloggers here.

I make five figures if you include the decimal point and the two numbers after… Six if you include the dollar sign. It’s all about perspective!

My blog is more about developing skills – web design, writing, marketing, etc. – that I later apply elsewhere. So from the surface, it looks as if my blogging barely makes any money. But I am able to apply what I learn at places such as my employer, which increases my income potential.

    • Peter Nyiri - FunnelXpert

      This is an awesome viewpoint.
The way I blog is like this: I run into a problem, research it, test it, then I write a post about it.

    • Janice Wald

      Hi Joe,
I love hearing from you. Your comments are funny.
As I explained to another commenter, I made money blogging by not trying to make money blogging.
Once I built links to my site and increased my Domain Authority, people found me and offered me compensation.
      Janice

The topic you chose itself so charming that one cannot help oneself from reading this post. And then the steps you discussed to overcome all hurdles are also worth. Thanks for a good article
