A Step-by-Step Guide on How to Make Money from Blogging

Frequently, students may find it challenging to cover their college expenses. Due to legal restrictions and little to no working experience, it’s tough for them to find a part-time job and earn enough money to pay the loans. However, there is a source of income that’s not limited by any restrictions — the Internet.

One of the most profitable and relatively effortless ways to contribute your monthly budget is making money from blogging. You can either launch your own website (for example, you can use WordPress CMS) or create an account in social networks. By producing exclusive content, you can attract new visitors to your page and gain popularity. However, that is not enough to start earning money.

Here is how you can monetize your blog and start earning money online.

Step 1: Find a profitable niche

Frequently, you can hear such pieces of advice as “Just follow your passion” or “Take the topic that has really grown on you.” Unfortunately, these hints are useful for self-expression but are not much applicable for money making. If you really want to make a living, you should choose a niche that is popular among your target audience.

You can either explore the Internet for recent trends or choose from one of the topics that have been in the spotlight for years. For example, here are some of them:

  • Learning life hacks
  • Marketing
  • Fitness
  • Food
  • Fashion
  • Technology innovations

Remember to focus only on one of the following topics, as it is difficult to come up with unique content for each topic, at least at the start. For instance, if you decide to write about education hints, consider covering specific topics. For example, in the case of education, you may write about professional college essay writing or term paper structure.

Step 2: Determine the format of your blog

Determining the format of your blog is crucial to begin earning money. You can choose from a wide range of available formats — you can either create a website, a YouTube channel or start writing on one of the online forums. If you doubt which one to choose, you can investigate the top 10 money-making blogs that are the most popular nowadays and analyze their advantages and things to be improved.

One should bear in mind that vlogs are also becoming one of the most lucrative ways to monetize your content. Thanks to smartphone development, supplemented by 4G and 5G cellular networks, it is much easier to watch YouTube on the move. According to TheGuardian, the average number of people who watch video blogs weekly passed 50% in 2015, and it has been increasing ever since.

Step 3: Choose the monetizing method

Finally, after creating your website or page in a social network, you should decide how to earn money from it. There are some basic ways for how you can increase your cash flow with the help of advertisements.

Pay Per Click

Pay Per Click (PPC) is one of the most common ways to monetize your web page. You will receive cash only when visitors click the ads banner and follow the link it provides. You should consider that the percentage of people who click the ad is low, so make sure you have enough visitors before applying this method.

In the case of social networks, an advertisement will be automatically incorporated into your content (for example, ads will be shown below the video on YouTube). However, if you have your own website, choose the place to insert ads rationally. The most notable spots are the top and bottom of the article.

In-Text Link Ads

This is the type of advertising that refers to affiliate marketing and is usually used by article authors. The idea behind it is pretty simple: for instance, if you are writing about innovations in Android apps development, you can insert a reference to the applications you mention in the text.

Surely, you have to contact the developers or sign up to a specialized provider who will automate this service. Both of them will give you a special link that increments a visits counter when somebody clicks it.

Pop-ups

You have definitely seen a popping banner when you open a website. The pop-up advertisement is widely spread online, but at the same time, is quite annoying. The majority of Internet users install pop-up blockers that prevent such ads from appearing on the customer’s screen.

Thus, if you consider using pop-ups, you should ensure they do not irritate your visitors. A good idea would be to show it only when your website is opened for the first time or when the visitor is about to close the tab. It will grab the customer’s attention and won’t distract them from the main content.

There are plenty of possibilities to create an interesting blog and monetize it without any special prerequisites or investments. Contemplate responsibly on its design, content, and monetizing and start covering your university loans on your own!

    Hi Martinez & Janice,

I love it finally I have seen someone who agrees that following your passion in blogging doesn’t always work, unless the niche is a popular one. For example, if you have a passion for laundry and you dish out top-notch articles on laundry and no one reads your post, there is no way you can make money from that niche. Thus, find a topic that has a vast readership and blog on the topic.
However, affiliate marketing also work pretty well. Monetizing your blog with affiliate marketing enables you to make money and at the same time figure out the best digital product your target audience is buying. In that way, you will be better equipped to create a product that sells.

I made tons of mistakes starting out and content marketing. I wrote very few sentences and publish that as a blog post or webpage. I put too many ads on the site once upon a time and drove people away. I would post a video or either at image with one sentence sometimes and thought that would get me tons of traffic from Google and Yahoo. I was wrong! Thankfully today, I have a new mindset toward producing content. I write longer pages and engage deeper with my readers, building and sustaining long-term relationships.

      Hi Dheeraj,
I agree with what you wrote: a brief post and too many ads are definitely blogging mistakes!
As far as videos, they are very trendy today. Images– some people have photo blogs. I don’t know how they do on search engines.
Long-form content definitely works. I’m glad you produce in-depth content know. I’m sure your readers are as well. Thanks for sharing your experiences.

    Hi Janice,

Some good steps for starting a profitable blog. My personal favorite is creating your own products and selling them. It has a higher learning-curve than placing ads on your site, but it also has a bigger potential in the long run. I may be biased though, as this is the only way that has worked for me.

    Thanks for the post.

      Hi thank you for writing.
I agree with you. I sell my blog coaching services, my freelance writing services, and my e-books. May I ask what you sell? It sounds lucrative!
