5 Quick Tips to Triple Your Website Sales Overnight

by Anil Agarwal

Are you looking to increase website sales?

The first step is always the hardest. The same goes for building a profitable blog online.

Starting a blog is easy but making money from it is NOT.

Here’s where things like networking, hustle, execution, sales funnel etc. come into play. If you’re struggling to increase your website sales, this post is for you.

Whether you’re struggling to increase your affiliate marketing sales or website sales, these tips can help you boost your conversions.

Are you curious to find them out? Let’s jump into the details.

1. Start using commercial intent keywords

If you want to triple your website sales overnight, focus on using commercial intent keywords. Here’s an image that quickly tells you the importance of commercial intent keywords.

how to increase website sales

Keyword intent helps you to increase traffic to your sites, attracts more qualified prospects, drive more sales and generates more leads. It is one of the most crucial aspects of paid search. Even the most well-funded PPC campaign will fail without a keen understanding of the intent behind visitors searches.

SEO is involved in various techniques like black hat, white hat, link building etc but we’re only focusing on keyword research here.

There are two types of keywords. High intent and low intent.

High intent keywords or high commercial intent keywords signify a strong intent on the part of the searcher. There are three basic types of search query:

  • Informational searches which users perform to answer questions or to learn something.
  • Navigational searches which users perform to locate a specific website.
  • Transactional searches which users perform to buy something.

Here are some examples of high commercial intent keywords:

  1. ‘Buy Now’ Keywords: Such keywords include, Buy, Discount, Deals, Coupons, Free shipping. All these keywords serve the same purpose and convince a prospect who has already decided to make a purchase to take action by offering additional incentives.
  1. ‘Product’ Keywords: Product keywords include branded searches, specific products, affordable, best, cheapest, comparison, review, top, product categories like summer dresses, insect repellant, beach accessories etc. Some of these keywords will be more valuable than others, depending on the nature of the business.

Benefits that advertisers get by targeting high intent keywords:

  • The searcher clearly indicates their intent to make a purchase by including high commercial intent keywords in their query
  • Both Google AdWords and Bing Ads offer a variety of advertising formats that are ideally suited to high commercial intent keywords which are highly attractive to searchers with commercial intent.

2. Make your website design clutter-free

Design is the new king.

The first impression is the last impression when it comes to online viewing. That’s why you should give your #1 focus on making your website clutter-free, easy-to-use, and easy-to-navigate.

Even if your blog has great content but poor design, then you won’t see any increase in sales. If you want to create a professional impression, then you need to make your website up to date and trendy.

  • Keep it clean: Instead of routine ads, banners, icons, badges, signs, pop-ups, buttons, and so on, why not give your site visitors a new experience from all these noises? Use flat design and white space to give your site visitors a new experience.
  • Do some research on web design: Do an effective research and start looking at websites with a specific purpose. Check whether a long scrolling page would work well or a flat page. If you really like someone else’s approach to their contact page or whatever it is,  then use it in your own website’s design scheme.
  • Use a pattern: Our eyes pay attention to web space in a certain pattern. If you observe it carefully, then it helps you in optimizing the important content on your site.  Put your most important content in the top left corner of your site. However, if you put too much in one spot, you won’t get the result you are looking for.
  • Give readability to your text: You need to make sure that users read your text without any problem. For example, if you keep cream colored text on a white background will either leave your site visitors with a headache or make them give up and move on. Never irritate them with tiny font sizes. The fonts you choose, the background color you choose must give ease of readability to your users.
  • Get the best design that works for mobile too: These days, everyone uses mobile devices more than desktop. So, it is really important to see that your website looks great on mobile devices. Whenever you make changes, toggle between the editor and the preview version and check how the design looks on mobile. Never ever miss your potential site visitors by doing simple mistakes.

3. Landing pages are golden

Landing pages can convert visitors into subscribers, buyers, or leads if you know how to make it. Implementing these few tips can help you get even more benefits and increases your conversion rate.

  • Make sure that your product or offer matches your prospects’ needs: Whatever the product or offer, you want to give, it should match your prospects’ needs as closely as possible. If your audience doesn’t want your offer, or if it doesn’t truly solve their problems, then the conversion rate of that offer’s landing page will become zero.
  • Keep the ad and the landing page headline same: If the ad and the landing page headline don’t match, visitors get confused and bounce immediately. If you want to improve your AdWords Quality Score, then at least keep similar headlines for the ad copy and the headline to avoid confusion.
  • Write really compelling headlines: The headline of your blog’s landing page is the first thing visitors see, so make it as powerful and compelling as possible. If your headline and ad copy are exactly the same, then it helps you to get more traffic. The headline makes a great difference in increasing your conversion rate.
  • Place a call-to-action: After the headline, your call-to-action is the second biggest opportunity to improve your conversion rate. Usually, 5-7 words are highly effective in most of the cases. Use terms like “Get my free report” or “Create my account,” instead of “Submit.”
  • Answer questions to build trust: To make your landing page great, answer common questions. It gives assurance to your visitors and builds trust.
  • Take very minimal information: If you ask for too much information when your visitors fill your registration form, then it lowers your conversion rate. All you really need is an email address, so ask only that to keep your conversions high.
  • Use a responsive design: When you invest in a good design, make sure you use a responsive design that looks great on any device. A landing page that doesn’t respond to the device of the visitor costs you leads and sales.
  • Invest in a good design: Colors, font type and size, whitespace, and other design elements play a huge role in capturing interest and guiding visitors’ eyes to the call-to-action. So, to boost your conversion rate, invest in good design.
  • Include a variety of trust builders: Make sure that your visitors trust you before they click on your landing page’s call-to-action. Good landing pages include a variety of trust-builders and social proof elements that includes testimonials and reviews, customer success stories, number of social shares, number of subscribers. client logos. third-party certifications and security badges.

4. Build trust

The quality of your website sales funnel is determined by the quality of your relationships with your customers and readers. Trust is one of the essential ingredients to turn a lead into a sale.

How can you build trust online? Here are few effective tips that help you.

  • When you say that you are going to do something, stick to that and do it (be it your blog posting frequency, networking, or writing guest posts). Consistency plays a crucial role while building trust with others.
  • Communicate, communicate, communicate. To build trust, make an honest communication frequently. Most of the marriages and work relationships fail due to poor communication.
  • It takes time to build up trust but it takes a fraction of a second to lose it due to poor decisions. So, always make the right decisions.
  • Always, value long-term relationships more than short-term success.
  • Focus more on your core principles and customer loyalty than short-term commissions and profits.
  • Be honest and tell the truth. Never show wrong social proofs such as fake income reports or photoshop visuals to build trust. It annoys people and you won’t go anywhere in the long run.
  • Show people that you care about them. When people know you care about their interests as much as your own, they will trust you.
  • Always be transparent, authentic and willing to share your mistakes and faults. When you don’t do the right thing, admit it.

5. Use social proof

To increase the positive customer engagement around products or services, businesses are increasingly using the concept of social proof.

How to increase website sales

Why do you need to understand this social proof? It’s not always about driving traffic to your site; you also need to secure your real customers.

It is good to know how this can be used in the right manner for your marketing strategy. Social proof is all about using the idea of human masses and their views to create positive connections around your brand.

Here are the different techniques that you can incorporate into your product to leverage the potential of social proof for your conversions.

  • Use expert testimonials: People love testimonials. If you want to increase your social proof in order to boost your website sales, get testimonials from experts. Help them first (either by writing guest posts or doing site audits etc.), then ask them for an honest review about your work or content.
  • Engage and build community by commenting: Nothing sells better than knowing how people are talking about your product in a positive manner. Make sure that you respond to customer comments. Building community is not just about customers but engaging with them, answering their queries, accepting feedback is what matters.
  • Customer reviews for every product: If you observe Amazon, you know that one of their best features is the idea of customer reviews for every product. You can always check out what ratings other customers have given to the product. Customer reviews are a great way to boost conversions.
  • Use social media: If you mention your fan following on Facebook or Instagram or Twitter, imagine the kind of impact your brand can make in the minds of prospective leads. Displaying those numbers actually lead to better conversions. Provide options to follow you on different social networks.

Final thoughts about increasing website sales:

Increasing your website sales is not hard if you know how to add value to others.

Don’t focus on yourself. Focus on helping others first. That’s how you succeed online. Networking, SEO, social proof – all these tactics play a huge role when it comes to increasing sales of any website.

    Hello Anil,

Great and very informative post. You are absolutely right that starting a blog is easy but making money out of it is a tricky job. Landing pages are so helpful to convert your visitors in subscribers. I am collecting emails from my readers as it help me with affiliate marketing campaigns.

    Have a great day 🙂
    Vishwajeet

    • Anil Agarwal

      Hi Vishwajeet,

Thanks so much for stopping by.

Yes, starting a blog is easy, anyone can do it within 2 minutes. But the hardest part is actually making it profitable.

It takes time though but you need to stay alert and learn more.. implement more to get ahead in blogging.

Glad to know that you’re building an email list to boost your affiliate sales.

      Keep rocking.

  2. Richard Monssen

    Hi Janice,

Some great information there! I like how you refer to keyword intent, in offline sale we usually call these buying or impulse triggers. What you have written is a definite strategy for increasing website sales. I’m currently working on some landing pages now so this article will make a good checklist to ensure I haven’t missed anything, thank you for providing me a nice structure to work with 🙂

    • Anil Agarwal

      Hi Richard,

Buying triggers.. whoa! Great term 🙂

When you’re already an expert in selling offline, it becomes so easy to sell online too, right?

Undoubtedly creating landing pages is the best way to boost your sales because they focus on a single goal which is great for conversions.

      Thanks for stopping by!

      • Richard Monssen

Well I wouldn’t say it becomes easy, but you can transfer some of the skill set required to write sales copy and other material. Using landing pages and the likes are an essential way to understand all the behaviour of your visitors. As a sales consultant/manager you learn as much about a client as you can in order to build rapport and identify needs. With this information an effective sales consultant will then lead their potential customer to make the most informed decision to purchase product x. The same is to be said for online marketing. 🙂

        • Anil Agarwal

Richard, more than writing a copy, you need to know what triggers people to actually buy from you.

That’s what becomes easy when you’re already good at selling, so that’s a plus point for you 🙂

Building rapport becomes easy when you’re trying to sell online, make sure to build an email list and use an email sequence to nurture your list.

          Keep rocking.

          • Richard Monssen

Yeah I’ve known the important of developing an email list for some time now and it’s actually something I am currently working on. I’m learning to use MailChimp but things have changed a fair bit since I set up an autoresponder so it’s a whole new learning curve. Landing pages and all variations are nearly always used with an autoresponder to develop an email list. Buying triggers are the terms we use in the sales copy or in this case blog article (from stuff we learn from how the customer responds on our page and in the autoresponder etc) and autoresponder to trigger the impulse to purchase the product we recommend or sell.

You’ll see very big things from me in the near future 🙂

    • Janice Wald

      Hi Richard,
Great to see you. Thanks for contributing to the discussion by sharing the offline terminology. I am glad you found the post a valuable checklist. Thanks for commenting.

Hi janice, nice informative article. You have covered every aspects of affiliate marketing. But you haven’t given much thought on Color psychology. You mentioned about importance of color and font. You could have discussed about color psychology also. then this would have been a complete tutorial.
    Anyway very informative article
    Thank you

    • Anil Agarwal

      Hi Sunil,

I laid out the strategies that worked best for me. Sadly we can’t cover everything in one piece of content.

As you said, colors play a huge role (the color and size of the buttons you use on CTA’s) in increasing sales of any website.

Have you tried it? Have you tried A/B testing to find out the best color for your business?

      Let me know your thoughts.

      • Sunil

I haven’t tried it yet. But I’m planning to conduct a test on my landing page.

        • Janice Wald

          Hi Sunil,
Maybe that is something I should do. It sounds intriguing. What would a landing page test entail?
          Janice

          • Sunilh

I think a landing page should be very engaging with a strong tittle, effective call to action buttons, strong trust indicatorsl..etc

Excellent info on keyword intent. Sometimes we forget about that and I’m keeping a list now. Thanks!

    • Anil Agarwal

      Hi Rebecca,

      Thanks for stopping by.

Keyword intent is something most people ignore while doing keyword research.

If done right, that’s the one thing that can bring you more traffic and more importantly skyrocket your overall website sales by using the right keywords.

      Best,
      Anil

  7. Joy Healey

    Hi Janice and Anil,

Very useful post about increasing sales.

I have to confess it’s a while since I gave my blog design an overhaul. Perhaps it’s time now.

I know there’s a lot of focus on mobile-friendly sites these days, but I’m still very much PC based. (It’s WORK, and I don’t work “on the go”,) So I find it quite disturbing when bogs are so wide that I seem to have to move my herd from side to side to read a post. Bring back narrow blogs.

Joy Healey – Blogging After Dark

    • Anil Agarwal

      Hi Joy,

I’ve a quick tip for you: don’t change your design too often.

Even better tip, don’t even worry about your design when you’re just starting out. Instead, focus on building loyal audience like Janice.

It’d be a lot better and easier to increase your sales that way.

      Thanks for stopping by!

      Hi Joy,
Thanks for commenting. My tech helper wants me to revamp my blog design but I love it so I don’t know if I will for a while.
I agree with you about the focus on mobile-friendly blogs. I have sped up my site and done what I could to have a mobile-friendly blog. I have even published posts explaining how. Times are always changing, it seems, and we are expected to change with them.
      Janice

    • Anil Agarwal

      Hi Joy,

Your blog design something that’s really important. That’s the first thing your audience will see when they land on your site.

So make sure to grab their attention in the first attempt.

First impression is the last impression when it comes to online.

The good thing is, you don’t need a designer to make your design look stunning. Just grab a theme from Genesis, Elegant themes etc and use WordPress.

      Thanks for stopping by!

I think building trust is more important between the customer (visitor) and the seller (blogger)…once the readers build trust they will easily buy our products…if their is no trust then even having high traffic will not help in increasing the sales…great post…!!

    • Anil Agarwal

      Hi Aravind,

That’s so true. Building trust is everything.

Without trust, no one buys stuff from strangers. That’s the key to affiliate marketers like Pat Flynn (to make more money by selling others products).

Email list is what helps you build trust. But still most people are not using it rightly.

      Thanks for stopping by.

  12. Kathryn Maclean

Anil has a great article Janice on your site. Great tips on tripling website sales. If you have something to sell, using commercial information words count. I liked personally points 2 to 4 the best. Very tips

    • Anil Agarwal

      Hi Kathryn,

Before start using commercial intent keywords, make sure to give a try to finding out various keyword ideas that increase your traffic.

Once you start getting more traffic, you can then try finding commercial intent keywords that help you increase your website sales.

That’s the key to blogging success.

      Keep rocking.

  14. Edward Thorpe

    Hi Janice & Anil,

Having sold for most of my life, you can’t beat talking to right person, at the right time, about the right thing, for gaining a sale…

And the process of using ‘buyer’s intent keywords’ (as Anil’s described here), is a great way to pre-qualify a prospect so you’re not talking to the wrong person. Good post, great comments,
    Edward

    • Anil Agarwal

      Hi Edward,

That’s so true about making sales.

You need to know how to persuade people to buy stuff from you without sounding like a sales guy. Unfortunately, most people don’t know how to market their stuff.

That’s why they often fail and quit before even they start making sales.

Using buyer intent keywords is the key to drive qualified visitors from search engines who love to buy stuff from you!

      Thanks for sharing your inputs!

  15. Lesly Federici

    Hello Anil and Janice,
Informative post. Not all sales are instant. It’s great to have the tools to promote your products. But the best suggestion you’ve mentioned is building trust. That is the one I put most of my efforts in. Trust is gold. If people don’t like you they won’t buy from you. I would put trust as #1. Very good article with lots of great suggestions! Thank you

    • Anil Agarwal

      Hi Lesly,

Yes, not all sales are instant. LoL. They take a ton of time.

Especially when you’re starting out, getting your first sale is really really hard and time consuming. Here’s where most people give up.

Analyse what others are doing, find out a way to market your stuff and watch your sales grow.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  16. Dr. Erica Goodstone

    Hi Anil and Janice,

Yes, you have offered so much valuable information about how to get great results and increase your monetization. However, every one of your suggestions requires a lot of thought, attention and time.
I guess we can take one step at a time and implement all the various pieces that make a great web site over time.

I started online many years ago and now I am finding it important to revamp some of my older sites – when I have the time to focus on them. Your info will certainly help in that process.

    • Anil Agarwal

      Hi Erica,

True that. That’s why don’t focus on too many things at once.

Pick one strategy, implement it wisely and start getting results. If you focus on too many things at once, you won’t get any better results (this is so much true when it comes to selling online).

All the best for your blogging success. Let me know if you’ve any questions related to revamping your old site.

      Keep rocking.

Prospects buy from confident salespeople and sales training builds that confidence. Thanks to solid sales training, it’s “out” with the old and “in” with the new powerful sales skills. That’s how sales training builds confidence and confidence is something a prospect must see in you if you expect to generate great sales success.

I believe the best way to increase website sales is through building trusts and all the tactics which companies employ would come under this umbrella. Keeping a proper communication channel with existing customers and finding new markets are two major parts of increasing any company or website sale because existing customers become evangelists if treated with respect and better service. On the other hand, being in search of new markets help the company in increasing sales as well as in getting a knack of different cultures.

To be successful, you can’t rely on your old way of doing things. Buyers don’t need salespeople to educate them on products and services anymore. They want ideas on what they can do to improve their businesses — not just a solution for today’s issues.

Attitude is your ability to access your skill. If you’re not on top of your game, you won’t make many sales. We all know that, yet many salespeople don’t fire on all cylinders when they need to. Try measuring your attitude on a scale of 1 to 10 and concentrate on ensuring that you are on top of your game for all important sales  tasks such as prospecting, meetings, presentations, negotiations

Thanks Janice. Informative article and we will try to implement it. The question I have is what specific recommendation you would give to put as a priority in we are operating in highly competitive industry. Do you recommend for example Facebook or Instagram campaigns even though they don’t build any backlinks? Looking forward to hear your expert opinion.

  29. Lily

If we follow these 5 tips from Anil, I think we will more than triple the sales. Commercial intent keywords are something so many still don’t focus on at all or not nearly enough. Wouldn’t it be better to bring in people that are ready to buy and not just window shopping?

A clutter-free design is a must. Without it you won’t make many sales and go out of business.

Landing pages should (in most cases) be very simple and have a video playing as it usually converts better. Ultimately, the look of the landing page depends on the product you’re selling and your target audience.

Trust is built with hard work and time and can easily be lost. Businesses should put themselves in their potential clients’ shoes and see things from their perspective. This is how they emphasize and build trust: by knowing their customers.

Social proof helps with building trust and can drastically increase conversion rates. A company without a good social presence is dead in the water.

    • Janice Wald

      Hi Lily,
Thank you for these detailed, insightful, thoughtful comments. I can see by your URL you sell furniture, so I must defer to your opinion.
I recently put a video on my About page to welcome visitors. I don’t know that it has improved conversions.
I agree with what you wrote about trust and longevity and social proof. I have blogged about these topics in the past.
