Top 5 Tips to Increase Organic Blog Traffic

by Arvind Kumar

Every day there are hundreds of blogs created. But, very few of them survive after a few months. Most of the blogs are now used for making money. It is not easy to make money online. Only blogs which are able to generate huge traffic are able to make awesome money. But, today increasing blog traffic has become a very difficult task.

Blog traffic is directly proportional to blog performance in search engines. If you are having good organic traffic, then you will see an improvement in your blog growth. Once your blog post comes on the first page of a search engine, then you can see the increase in your blog ranking. Traffic, ranking, and performance all three are interconnected. If you just increase your blog traffic, the other two will also increase automatically.

Every year with the changing algorithm of search engines, it is difficult to rank blogs higher. But, you see there are many new blogs which are able to get good traffic by just following simple techniques. Yes, you can also get a good amount of readers or visitors if you honestly take care of your blog. There are just 5 tips you have to follow to grow your blog.

Tip 1 -Write Consistently on Your Blog

Search engines like blogs which are updated regularly. You have to consistently add articles to your blog to give more knowledge to your readers. This is the best way to increase your blog ranking in search engines. You need to be very passionate about your topic for blogging; this will only help you to write quality articles. The more you know about your topic, the more interestingly you can write about it.

For new blogs, bloggers should have to publish one or two articles every day. Initially, the readers and visitors will be less, but as they visit your blog daily and sees new quality content, they will again come back to your blog. This is the best way to retain the old readers. The more you will write, the more you will connect with your readers.

Once you have written more than 10 articles, interlink them to engage your readers. If you see a website like Wikipedia, you can see that every line has a hyperlink to another post. This way, readers get more information about the topic.

Tip 2 -Follow On Page and Off Page SEO

On page SEO can be easily followed by using a Yoast SEO plugin for WordPress blogs. This plugin will help in using keywords in your blog title, Meta description, H1, H2, H3 tags etc. The targeted keywords should not be used too few or too much. Do not Spam your article with keywords. While writing articles, try to give all the information you can about the topic. Write long articles of around more than 1000 words, because search engines love long articles which cover all the specific information.

Off page SEO can be done by commenting on blogs or writing a guest post. This technique helps in connecting with other bloggers of the same niche. Off page SEO helps in generating backlinks. Getting a Dofollow and Nofollow backlink helps in increasing your blog ranking in search engines. Always try to follow high ranking blogs in your niche and keep commenting on their blogs. If you want to increase your presence in search engines, you will need to work on Off page SEO techniques.

Tip 3 -Keyword Research

Before writing an article, always do keyword research. On the internet, there are a lot of keywords which already have tons of posts. For example, if you search “weight loss” on Google, you will get tons of search results. This shows that the “weight loss” topic is already in a very competitive market and it is not easy to rank high for this keyword. Hence, do proper keyword research and use a low competitive keyword, which can be easily ranked in search engines.

Google Keyword Planner, is a free keyword tool which can help you to find low competitive keywords. I would suggest targeting long tail keywords, which are easily ranked in search engines. SEMrush and Long Tail Pro are also the best keywords tool available in the market. If you use the paid version of these tools, you can get a lot of awesome features.

Tip 4 -Promotion of Blog Post

After writing a blog post, it is very important that it is reached to your targeted readers. Now, this can be easily done by joining social networking sites. Social media is very helpful for promotion of anything. Even movies are being promoted on social media like Twitter and Facebook. So, once you publish a blog post, then start sharing it on Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, Pinterest, Instagram etc.

You can easily get your targeted readers in Facebook groups. You just need to join those groups and share the relevant blog content. If you get likes, then you are on a good track.  The same in Google plus. There are communities for each topic; you can share your blog content in relevant communities. This way, you have to just promote your blog content by joining social networking sites.

Tip 5 -Focus on Quality, Not on Money

Many bloggers start focusing on making money once they get an AdSense account. You cannot make money until you have a good blog with quality content. Hence, the quality of your blog post is the only thing which will help you make a good income. It takes time for a blog to grow, so keep publishing original content on your blog. Many bloggers, after few months, start sharing copied content on their blog. This happens, because they lose patience and cannot give too much time for their blog.

Patience is the key to success. Do not quit in between. If you feel demotivated, read some inspiring post for motivation. If you remove negative thoughts from your mind, you will always achieve success in future.

Conclusion

These techniques are very unique and are followed by most of the successful bloggers. It’s all about how honest you are. If you are writing from your heart, then it will surely reach your readers. Do not focus more on quantity, quality content is the key factor in blogging. If you understand your readers, then you can easily gain their trust. These are the best ways to increase your blog performance and traffic in search engines.

    Hello Janice and Arvind,

Thank you for the great post.

I would like to ask for your opinion on social networking. Do you think that social networking is a deal breaker? What I mean by this is it is crucial to join all the social networking platforms to be able to get blog readers? Is one or two not sufficient?

I would highly appreciate your thoughts.

      Hi Arvind, useful SEO tips!

SEO is becoming more vital these days to build a profitable online business and if you are ignoring SEO then you are ignoring sales. It’s as simple as that.

Fortunately SEO is not as complicated as most people think and if done right you can get a lot of traffic from search engines like Google to your website. Just make sure to focus on long term results if you are trying to get results from SEO because SEO is not a sprint it’s a marathon.

Instead of depending on shortcuts make sure to focus on implementing evergreen SEO strategies like creating a long form of content, building quality backlinks from authority sites, doing competitive research for finding topics, proper on page optimisation to increase organic traffic to your website.

Keyword research is definitely one of the primary factors that can make or break your SEO success so make sure to find low competition and highly relevant keywords that help you get more visitors from search engines to your sites.

Thanks for publishing the guest post Janice, keep up the great work!

        Hello Arvind,

Thank you for the additional tips. Your list of must-use social networking platforms is valuable. For now, I have used Twitter and Quora but will certainly look at the others. I know that Facebook is gold but I’ve stopped using it personally so I’m not yet keen to go back. I know that no matter what I write, it won’t matter unless somebody sees it. My mother doesn’t even read my blog :-).

        Thank for the response!

        Best,
        Sigrid

    Hi Arvind & Janice,

Some great tips there and all quite valid in SEO today. I love SEO and devour many articles on the subject. It’s something I’ve actually just published an article on myself too. Many people think that SEO in blogging is just about writing words and getting links to your site but it’s so much more these days. As you mention writing consistently is a big factor in getting off the ground quickly when blogging and I agree.

Thank you for are great read guys 😉

Hello Janice, you mentioned that we should “Always try to follow high ranking blogs in your niche and keep commenting on their blogs.” Is it alright to keep leaving a link back to my blog in doing so?

  5. Mark

    Great post, Arvind.

My only suggestion: the tips you’ve listed are the core, must-dos to promote your blog. There are many others that could help for the right topic. How about a follow-up piece on ‘5 more ways’.

    Cheers

Consistency is the key to my blogs success.

I am also building what I call a “transparent startup” where I share the revenue generated, expenses and lessons learned along the way. I find that by engaging the audience and involving them in my journey they become much more interest in the content I am putting out. An example I recently wrote a report for march 2018 and highlighted some key traffic metrics from our blog.

    • Janice Wald

Would you mind bringing the link to that report? I would love to see and others might be interested also. As far as my revenue generated, I share my strategies for generating revenue but I don’t share my income reports. Everything is relative.

  8. Ryan Biddulph

Consistent writing is really at the core of all blogging success Janice and Arvind. Focus on the meat and potatoes of churning out helpful content. Even if you miss the mark with SEO or any of the other tips you can still rank by publishing valuable stuff addressing reader problems on a persistently basis. I put out 1-3 helpful posts daily and get clearer on hitting the mark with each one. The more you write the better you write and the more you position yourself to rank well in search engines.

    Ryan

    • Arvind Kumar

Thanks Ryan for your valuable comment…you are a big inspiration for new bloggers like me…!!!

  9. Martha

Hello, I have become in a trouble i consistently write an article daily but i am not getting good results. Now i am starting to adopt your way i hope i will get better results 🙂

    • Janice Wald

Promote everywhere so you get traffic from social media sites. Also, do your keyword research so you get traffic from search engines. It is time consuming to write every day and spend that much time promoting and researching. Maybe you want to write every other day instead.
      Janice

    • kesav

I will suggest you to promote your blog on quora and stumble upon to get instant and high referral traffic to your site.

    • Arvind Kumar

      Hi Martha,

I would recommend to focus on quality as well….delivery quality with every post will surely help in improving your blog performance in search engine..!!

  10. Shahla Banu

    Hi,
A blogger need of more traffic to reach as a successful blogger. When write a blog the topic is more important. And the article filled stuff also important. We will careful about that our focused readers want all details include in the post. Reader get all things from our round up then they follow our blog. Another time they will first check our blog. Other thing is SEO. It is inevitable, With out SEO organic traffic not possible. So we want to more careful about that.

Relation ship is a benefit for more traffic. Relation ship with other bloggers and social media relation. Sharing gives more result. That make by relation.

All the points you mentioned are powerful. Thanks for sharing excellent round up

  11. Kesav

Promotion of your blog is very important as mentioned in the above article. There are plenty of free and paid platforms where you can promote your blog and get quality back links to your site. Stumbleupon, Reddit are a good platforms where you can get immediate results which you look for.

  12. Lisa P Sicard

I agree with some of the comments made here Arvind and Janice about consistency. I think if you write at least once a week at least all the time it will lead to an increase in organic traffic. I think you have to mix up your media on the posts too (Something I need to work on myself!).
People love video, infographics, click to tweets and more to stay engaged.
Thanks for your tips and have a great day to you both!

  13. Diana

A combination of these five things done consistently is what’s gonna get you traffic. When I started my first blog, I was creating content daily, but I had no clue what SEO was so it wasn’t getting ranked.

Worst of all, no one was reading it.

It’s a hassle to have to do these 5 things every time you create new content, but the results are worth it.

  14. Moss Clement

    Hi Arvind & Janice,

Traffic is a goldmine for every blogger and content marketer, which is why this post is a must-read. The tips are great and will definitely improve your web traffic.

You suggest using Google keyword planner as a free tool, I think you have to check that out as I tried to use it yesterday for my guest post but discovered that I have to first create an ad campaign and set my spending budget before I can use the software. So basically Google keyword planner is no longer free.

Furthermore, the competition is intense and for a niche like “weight lose,” one can easily get lost in the crowd. So with a mass of keywords in the weight lose niche, the best practice will be to niche down and look for LSI keywords – related keywords that are similar in meaning.

    Cheers,
    Moss.

    • Diana Soare

You are asked to create an Ad campaign when you set up your account, but you can cancel it after you’re in. This is how it used to work some time ago when I made my account, and I believe it didn’t change. To avoid any inconvenience just add a small budget for the campaign (when I created my account I put a random budget and I actually forgot to cancel the campaign).

      • Moss Clement

Thanks for the clarification Diana. I haven’t used that tool – Google keyword planner as I started my keyword research with SEMrush. But after reading an article by a friend where she listed Google keyword planner as one of the best free tools for bloggers, I decided to try, then I got the message to create ad campaign and set spending limits.

        Thank once again.

  15. Youness Bermime

    Hi Arvind and Janice,

Great tips here. I, personally, had a bad experience with writing content daily for a couple of months. So, I’m not really a big fan of publishing daily anymore. But I agree that keyword research and blog promotion are really what will make sure your blog never runs out of visitors.

There are tons of tools to use and many ways to connect with bloggers and influencers in your niche for that reason. I love emailing other bloggers in my niche at least once a week. Keeping in contact helps build a good and mutually beneficial relationship.

Thank you for sharing this article!

    • Arvind Kumar

      Hi Youness,

thanks for commenting….everyday posting a new article will be little difficult for most of us…I would suggest to choose two days in a week and post quality article on only these two days…this way you can maintain consistency and quality both..hope it will be helpful…!!

  16. Vyvian Chacon
