The secret to being successful in business isn’t customers, but employees. After all, without your staff, you wouldn’t be able to serve those customers that keep your company alive anyway. While the media tends to suggest otherwise, no entrepreneur becomes successful alone. You might have launched your startup by yourself, but it’s your team that shoulders most of the work. To stop your employees from leaving for another company, here are five ways to keep them happy.

What is Team Building?

Team building is defined as activities that help team members work more cohesively together. These tips boost employee morale which leads to greater cooperation among employees.

Easy Team Building Activities

1. Provide The Best Environment

The space in which you work can hugely impact your mood. If your office has too little light, too much clutter, or a poor internet connection, it will result in workplace stress. Not only will this impact productivity among your workforce, but it can also trigger more serious health issues. This is why you must make sure that your workspace is kept clean and tidy, with plenty of natural light and efficient tools. You must also provide private rooms for employees to work quietly alone.

2. Accommodate A Healthy Lifestyle

While keeping a tidy office can help your staff, there are many more ways to accommodate a healthy lifestyle. You could create a workout space, for example, or give out free passes to a local gym. Having a bike rack installed outside might encourage individuals to cycle to work, which will reduce your company’s carbon footprint, as well as keep your team fit. To promote a healthy work-life balance, you could allow your team to work from home and pick their hours.

3. Educate The Whole Team

Even the best hires can’t walk into a new job knowing exactly how to do it. As their employer, it is up to you to ensure that they are taught. There are many ways to go about this, but the most engaging tends to be an eLearning course. If there is no one on your payroll that could create such a course, then you could find top custom eLearning content providers to help. You should also provide opportunities for career advancement, like new courses, seminars, and classes.

4. Take An Honest Interest

While you will certainly be busy with your own work, including instructing employees on what they should be doing, you must take the time to get to know your team. This will give you a much better understanding of them, allowing you to identify areas within the business where they are likely to excel. By doing this, you can ensure that you give your employees tasks that match their strengths. Making an effort like this will also show your team that you care about them.

5. Work On Company Policies

All businesses have rules, and most of those rules have been put in place for a very good reason. However, some employers pick certain company policies just because other businesses have them. Banning relationships among colleagues is just one example. This might seem like a good way to avoid distractions and arguments, but the stress of hiding relationships from you can cause more among your staff. Before setting a rule, make sure that it is right for your company.

Employees are an important asset, so treat yours well by following the advice above. These easy team building activities will boost morale.

      Hi Gaurav,
I’m glad you feel these off-line tips are valuable. Thank you for writing to tell me.
I am a teacher. My school often buys us donuts or caters breakfast to boost our morale. These perks are important in all lines of work.
Thanks for commenting. Great to see you.

    Hi Janice,

I couldn’t agree with you more. Indeed, a positive environment is an important component of work and it promotes productivity. My team and I are working in a coworking space, and we see to it that we have time to enjoy once in a while. We do happy hours as well. Thank you for sharing this amazing post! Business owners should read this too. Cheers!

      Hi Sharon,
I appreciate your wonderful comments about the importance of this post.
I agree with what you wrote. Many workers share cubicles and don’t have private offices. Imagine how uncomfortable the morale would be in that awkward situation if you don’t get along with each other.
I teach. My school also has socialization opportunities outside of school.
      Thank you for writing.
