This was not a selfie. My husband took my photo to use on Instagram. I didn’t know what caption to use.

As you see, I understand the frustration of trying to write captions for photos of yourself.

When I saw PicsArt’s caption, “You’re amazing.” I knew I could use this to try to generate interest in my email list so people would sign up for my newsletter: We all have the potential to be great bloggers since we are all amazing.

I wanted to pass along some feedback from lifestyle entrepreneur and Instagram guru Isabella Garofanelli, founder of Your Luxe Lifestyle and @isabella_garofanelli.

Isabella says writing captions is “a way to microblog. Microblogs are very popular with influencers and bloggers now.” This is a way to add value to each individual post.

Three captions that are her personal favorites that are short and sweet that would pair well with selfies are:

11. “Life is way too short for bad vibes.”

12. Smiles are free, but they’re worth a lot too”

13. “Every moment matters.”

Influencer Shares Captions for Pictures of Yourself – *5* Caption Suggestions!

I’m the VP of marketing at Faveable, a popular beauty, fashion, and lifestyle product review website. I’m also a beauty influencer myself with a 17K following on Instagram (and 60K+ on TikTok).

I find that the best captions to post with photos are empathetic ones that make the people following you or scrolling by feeling something.

To come up with empathetic captions to post with your photos, think about positive messages that help make your own day better.

I’ve included several examples of empathetic captions below that are great to post with your selfies.

14. “Never allow your light to dim, it’s meant to shine.”

15. “No one is you and that is your superpower.”

16. “Visualize your highest self, then start showing up as her/him.”

17. “Repeat after me: I am worthy of happiness.”

18. “How you love yourself is how you teach others to love you.”

All of the captions are positive and uplifting and can help make people feel like they relate to you more.

What you don’t want to do is alienate people by being abrasive with the captions you include with your photos.

I am a photographer, photography writer, and founder of the most read photography education website.

Due to writing being a part of my everyday life, I know the difference that wisely chosen words can make.

When trying to choose a matching caption, it is often tempting to use a quote or song lyrics. You may find that somebody else has already perfectly expressed what you are looking for. However, you need to be careful to avoid clichés or sounding lame.

19. “Don’t shoot what it looks like. Shoot what it feels like.” – David Alan Harvey

For me, this quote beautifully explains the point of photography.

When you upload a picture of yourself, you want to convey your emotions. You want the viewer to feel how you felt, to experience the atmosphere that you experienced.

This is a fitting caption if you are trying to express a message through your photograph.

It sometimes happens that you dedicate your posted selfies to someone particular, someone who plays an important part in your life and you especially want to show your picture to.

If that is the case, song lyrics can be your go-to captions. You can use something that refers to a specific memory or has a special meaning for you.

I personally prefer rock bands’ lyrics, since I find them being able to perfectly capture human emotions. My all-time favorite is Bring Me The Horizon’s.

20. “I’ll be your gravity, you be my oxygen”.

21. “Understand me. I’m not like an ordinary world. I have my madness, I live in another dimension and I do not have time for things that have no soul.” – Charles Bukowski

If you are trying to express something more complex, you might want to use a literature quote from your favorite author or poet.

I find that literature has so many undiscovered treasures that we overlook in nowaday’s superficial life.

This Bukowski quote is an excellent choice if you want to stand out on Instagram and provoke thoughts with your selfie.

23. Because being with you makes perfect sense – Tim McGraw, “My Best Friend”

24. “Got my Ray-Bans on and I’m feeling hella cool tonight.” – Rihanna, “Cheers (Drink to That)”

25. “Find me where the wild things are.” – Alessia Cara, “Wild Things”

Nowadays, we don’t only make an effort to come up with good photos but we also make an effort to come up with good captions. But, you shouldn’t just use just any caption. Your caption should be appropriate for your photo.

And, for selfies, I think the most appropriate captions would be captions that promote positivity, confidence, and self-love.

Here are some selfie caption ideas for you:

29. “Smile big, laugh often.”

30. “No one is you and that is your biggest power.” – David Grohl

31. “Be yourself, there’s no one better.”

32. “Slay all day.”

33. ““Be yourself, babe.”

34. “Be more of you and less of them.”

35. “Practice more self-love, please.”

More Methods to Write Captions for Pictures of Yourself

“I personally feel like song lyrics are overdone honestly and can make people take your page less seriously.

You want your caption to be related to the picture in some way, even vaguely.

If the picture shows you deep in thought or looking off into the distance, share what’s on your mind.

You want your caption to lead to engagements, so sparking a conversation or talking about what you’re thinking will surely get people to respond.

I wouldn’t however, say that the picture is you thinking of this thing; the caption should just supplement the image, and associating the two closely can come off as forced. It might also be good just to share a word or two.

If you’re trying a different hairstyle, mention it in a concise way. You want the caption to add flavor to the image. Because of this, I would suggest not taking a picture just to match a caption you came up with as it can feel unnatural sometimes.”
