What You Can Gain From a Blogging Workshop

Far too often we hear the word “workshop” and shut down. For many, workshops live under the umbrella of conferences, trade shows, and other time-consuming forms of professional development.

Instead, ask yourself what you have to lose by neglecting opportunities for career development.

An Opportunity to Grow

There is no better way to nurture writing skills than to attend a blogging workshop where you’re surrounded by other people in your profession. Some workshops work on basics like structure, tone, and conversion where others focus on overhead content marketing strategy. All workshops grant you the opportunity to grow personally and professionally.

A Wealth of Creative Ideas

How many times has writer’s block shot your workweek in the foot? If you’re anything like x percent of writers, it’s a lot. Lucky for you, blogging workshops provide a wealth of creative blog post ideas. Whether the workshops supply you with prompts or simply gives you a lot to think, the result is a wealth of creative ideas you can use in and on your work projects.

The Ability to Network Within Your Industry

Ever heard the saying ‘your network is your net worth’? If you haven’t, let us be the first to inform you. Workshops are a great place to meet driven professionals in your niche. Whether you’re a job seeker, freelancer, or considering making a change in workplace workshops provide you with the ability to meet other people in your industry.

A Reality Check

No matter how great you think you are, being around other professionals in your niche will tell you exactly where you sit (or stand) on the food chain. Though it can be damaging to realize you’re not a cut above the rest, it can be motivation to get there. Likewise, if you find that you’re one of the smartest copywriters in the room you know you’re in a good position to take the next step in your writing career. Either way, you’ll be glad you did.

Learn Something New

The industry is constantly changing. That means the best practices for writing content are always change with it. While you’re attending your blogging workshop, make sure you pay attention to the small details. These small details are where you are likely to learn something new about blogging that you didn’t know. Maybe it’s a structure set up that you were unaware of, or maybe it’s the new ideal length of a piece of content. No matter what, you are likely to learn something new at a blogging workshop.

Finding New Ways to Generate Content

Blogging workshops aren’t always about simply writing. A lot of great workshops will focus on different ways to generate your content as well. Sometimes they will recommend finding your topics in the current news, and others will provide you with tools to help you find those perfect keywords. Attending a blogging workshop is a great way to find new ways to produce your content.

Direction for Newbies

Our industry is growing, and so many people want to jump into the digital work environment. If you are one of those people, you really should look into a blogging workshop. There is no better place to start your journey into the digital world than in a group of professionals teaching the subject. It’s a great place to ask all the questions you can think of and get responses on the spot from industry professionals. They will point you in the right direction and help you get the ropes of the industry.

Improving Your Processes

You could even take your current process into the workshop with you. Since you are around so many industry professionals and coaches, this could be a great time to ask how they would go about generating their content with your strategy. This is invaluable because you will get the criticism and feedback you need to create better pieces of content. You might even find someone who is doing things just like you, but with a twist.

You Could Even Find a Job

There are few times that you will be asked to share your thoughts on the workshop. If you have the perfect bits of information to give them to make the workshop better, you might find yourself with job offers, too. The goal of many of these blogging workshops is to help people get better at writing blog posts, but it’s also an opportunity to find the best of the best in the industry. If you shine during the workshop, you might find the people running it asking for your help on the next one. Remember, it’s just as much a networking opportunity for you as it is for the people running it. Make sure you talk to the people in charge!

This is great. I’ve been thinking about attending a local workshop to help my Sacramento clients understand more about blogging. Do you know if there is a good resource to find localized workshops or is most of this stuff online?

    • Janice Wald

      Hi Jeff,
Thank you for writing to us. Google My Business has localized business listings. The 2 blogging courses I’ve taken are online but I read a great deal as well so I’m also self-taught.
