Blog Party: Happy Groundhog Day

Blog Party Meet and Greet

Welcome to Our Groundhog Day Party!

Groundhog Day was celebrated in the United States and Canada on Friday, February 2.

The traditional Groundhog Day is significant since it determines how much longer winter will last.

The two cultures have a legend about a groundhog. According to the legend, a groundhog will come out of his hole to look at his shadow.

If it is cloudy when he pokes his head out, then the spring season will arrive early. If it is sunny, the groundhog will supposedly see his shadow and retreat back into its hole, and winter weather will persist for six more weeks.

At today’s Meet and Greet, we are having cake.

In the comments section, you are encouraged to self-promote.

Introduce your blog to the other guests at the party. Tell the readers about your blog, and post a link to your favorite post, a recent post, your About page, your blog link, or anything you like.

If you are not already following Mostly Blogging, I like new followers too.

Note: At other Meet and Greets, guests return and leave different links to articles in different comment boxes. You are welcome to return as often as you like and leave links.

I am hoping others will be able to find new blogs to read and new bloggers to connect with.

Guests, if you think others would enjoy the networking opportunities at our Groundhog Day Meet and Greet, please share on your blogs and social media. The more guests at the party, the more networking opportunities for all of us.

Did you know that the tradition of predicting weather according to the groundhog seeing his shadow or not has its roots in an ancient Celtic practice? On the so-called cross-quarter days (days like Imbolc/Candlemas and Beltane/May Day) the Celts had a tradition of reverse weather prediction. So if the weather that day was nice, it was a sign of bad weather to come. But if it was overcast and cold, the next few weeks would have nicer weather.

Why do we care about the groundhog seeing his shadow? Because if it’s overcast, there is no shadow to see. That’s when we say spring is just around the corner. But if the day is bright and he sees his shadow, we say there are six more weeks of winter ahead.

      Hi Divya,
I have CommentLuv on my blog. Whether CommentLuv gives you more “Google juice” when you leave a comment is debatable. I’ve heard both.
There are many ways to know if someone has a dofollow link. The problem for me is that the tools are browser extensions which mark up the website. I used one for a while and found it marred my experience at the websites and took it off.
If you look at this article, you’ll see 8 websites that will give you a dofollow link. You’ll notice they have red lines around them.
Thanks for coming to my party.

I have a blurb about me and my blog written in the 3rd person that sums me up the best… DON’T HATE ME for 3rd person! lol GiGi, a former competitive snowboarder and horseback rider has since become a popular allergen-friendly cook and certified nutritionist with a master’s degree in Nutrition Communications. However, prior to obtaining her master’s degree, she got her broadcast journalism degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder and even worked as the 3 am weather girl at Denver’s ABC affiliate. After realizing those hours were the pits, she moved to Los Angeles, where she currently lives and started a humorous weekly blog/vlog called GiGi Eats Celebrities. This blog/vlog is a place where people with diet concerns, as GiGi’s enthusiasm stems from her own severe diet-related problems, can get advice (such as traveling with food intolerances – GiGi also offers nutrition services for those who need a helping hand when it comes to making lifestyle changes) along with allergen-friendly recipes that everyone can enjoy. A self-proclaimed extreme eater (she can eat 6 pounds of salmon in one sitting, no joke) and a rather blunt and vulgar diehard food, GiGi is proof that you can educate and inform as well as entertain at the same time!

My latest blog post is about the FOOD I ATE IN AFRICA… I remade one of my favorite things I put in my mouth!

From what I understand about the Groundhog day tradition, if they groundhog sees his shadow, then there’s six more weeks of winter. If he doesn’t, then there’s six weeks until spring. So it has more on how you look at things (dangit, six more weeks of winter, or wahoo! six weeks until spring!) rather than reality (because six more weeks of winter is the same thing as six weeks until spring!)

I have two blogs: a main, general purpose blog, and a dog-oriented blog. My general purpose blog is at (no special domain name) and my dog-blog, Puppy Snuggles, is at I’m currently working on updating the looks for both.

Hello! Thank you for hosting a fun party ! I’ve been like a groundhog as of late. I’m working on moving content and reformatting it with our new theme. I’m a publisher & accidental poet . I use to be a journalist but now I’m a backseat news picker. It’s like a back seat driver instead of telling driver what to do I yell at my tv & wonder what happened to the press core I loved so much.
Here’s my bio which has a few of my favorite things in it!
